Julia Guiheen

Julia Guiheen is a dancer and freelance writer based in Providence, Rhode Island. She is currently dancing with Festival Ballet Providence in her first season as a trainee company dancer.

 

 Julia grew up performing in musicals and began studies in ballet at age 12. She trained at the Studio Allegro School of Ballet in her hometown of Madison, NJ under the direction of Leslie Drucks, before going on to study dance at Butler University in Indianapolis. In 2018 she graduated cum laude from Butler with a BFA in Dance Performance and Strategic Communications.

 

While at Butler, Julia performed in several classical ballets, including Giselle, The Nutcracker, and the Grand Pas from Paquita, as well as contemporary works by Marek Cholewa, Cynthia Pratt, and Derek Reid. In 2018 she earned the ButlerBallet director’s award for her role as the Stepmother in Cinderella. Julia also had the opportunity to perform in Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Slovak Republic while on tour with ButlerBallet in Eastern Europe in the summer of 2016. Since joining Festival Ballet Providence, Julia has performed in the world premieres of Mary Ellen Beaudreau's Robin Hood and Courtney Asselin's Allign, as well as Mihailo Djuric's beloved version of The Nutcracker.

Outside the realm of performance, Julia has experience teaching and choreographing dance at Butler University and Studio Allegro, and has attended workshops in teaching philosophy with Kids Dance Outreach. Julia has also worked administrative positions at The Joffrey Ballet School and Festival Ballet Providence. Julia currently serves as the communications intern for Festival Ballet, assisting with the company's social media and online communications, and she is a regular web contributor for Pointe Magazine, writing for the weekly dance history column “Throwback Thursday”.
